Northwest Africa 14172 (NWA 14172) Mali Purchased: 2020 Feb Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in February 2020 from a Malian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Sparse separated, granular chondrules containing Cr-magnetite are set in a matrix containing Cr-magnetite (stained red-brown in thin section), calcic plagioclase and minor ilmenite Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa31.6±0.1, range Fa31.4-31.8, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs26.1±0.0Wo2.7±1.6, range Fs24.5-27.4Wo1.6-3.8, N = 2), augite (Fs10.0±0.4Wo44.6±2.1, range Fs9.8-10.3Wo46.1-43.1, N = 2), plagioclase (An68.9-72.6Or2.4, N = 2), magnetite (Cr2O3 = 4.0-4.3 wt.%, N = 3). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5). Specimens: 26.1 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
