Bechar, Algeria

Purchased: 2021

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2)

History: Found in Algeria. Bought by Jean Redelsperger from a Moroccan dealer in 2021.

Physical characteristics: Several fully crusted stones.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with well-delineated chondrules, with average apparent diameter 310±190 μm (n=41) set in an abundant fine-grained iron-rich matrix (71 vol% by point counting, n=254). Opaque minerals are sulfides (to 50 μm), magnetite, and FeNi metal as μm-sized grains enclosed in silicates. Phyllosilicates are present.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa range Fa1.0-33.6.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2). Likely paired with NWA 13167.

Specimens: 22 g type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Jean Redelsperger
