Northwest Africa 14316 (NWA 14316)

Purchased: 2018 Mar

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2)

History: The meteorite was purchased by Adrián Contreras Gómez in Errachidia, Morocco, in March 2018.

Physical characteristics: Dark-gray stones with a dark fine-grained interior.

Petrography: Abundant chondrules (average apparent diameter 430±320 µm, N=29), isolated olivine, low-Ca pyroxene and high Ca-Pyroxene mineral fragments, and small CAIs with fine-grained dust rims set in a dark matrix (~55 vol%). The mesostasis in many chondrules has been altered to phyllosilicates.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa10.8±18.0, range Fa0.4-43.4, Cr2O3=0.35±0.15, n=10); low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs3.8±3.2 Wo1.0±0.5, range Fs0.7-5.4Wo0.4-1.0, n=8).
