Northwest Africa 5670 (NWA 5670) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2008 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R5-6) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer on a mineral fair in Berlin, Germany. Physical characteristics: Brownish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a light orange interior and is a breccia composed of up to 1.7 cm sized type 6 and black melt rock clasts in abundant type 5 host lithology that contains some weakly delineated chondrules. Ferroan olivine, Ca-pyroxene, and sodic plagioclase are the dominant mineral phases. Opaques are pentlandite, pyrrhotite and Ti-bearing chromite; metal is absent. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa37.7±0.2 (Fa37.4-37.9, FeO/MnO=77±5, n=12); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs29.4±0.2Wo1.8±0.2 (Fs29.0-29.9Wo1.5-2.1, n=10); Ca-pyroxene: Fs11.4±0.6Wo44.7±0.7, (Fs9.8-11.8Wo44.1-46.5, n=10); feldspar: An6.9-13.2Ab82.7-87.3Or2.9-5.8, n=10 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
