Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 13727 (NWA 13727) Algeria Purchased: 2018 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-5) History: Purchased by Jesper Grønne in 2018 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed of discrete well-delineated chondrules plus lithic clasts in a fine grained matrix. Both unequilibrated and equilibrated chondrules are present. Some lithic clasts (Type 5) consist of sparse chondrules in a recrystallized matrix, whereas others consist of separated chondrules in an opaque matrix. Accessory minerals include sodic plagioclase (in the matrix), pyrrhotite, pentlandite, Ti-chromite, merrillite and Cr-magnetite; metal is absent and much of the sulfide is stained orange from secondary alteration. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa31.3±17.9, range Fa1.4-54.9, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs3.9±2.6Wo1.2±0.6, range Fs2.0-5.7Wo0.8-1.6, N = 2), high-Ca pyroxene (Fs2.1Wo36.9; Fs1.3Wo49.7; Fs13.5Wo43.3; N = 3, plagioclase in chondrule (An89.2Or0.1), plagioclase in matrix (Ab88.4An7.5Or4.1), magnetite (Cr2O3 = 0.34 wt.%). Classification: R3-5 chondrite breccia. Specimens: 20.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. J. Grønne. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
