Northwest Africa 13848 (NWA 13848) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jan Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-6) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Five dark brownish fragments partly covered by fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a dark brownish to orange interior and is composed of up to 4 mm sized angular to subrounded type 6 and impact melt clasts in type 3 matrix. Olivine and low-Ca pyroxene are compositionally unequilibrated in the matrix. Fe-rich olivine is the most dominant mineral phase in the clasts. Chondrules have an average diameter of about 400 μm. More minor phases include low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, sodic plagioclase, sulfides, and Ti-bearing chromite; no metal has been detected. Geochemistry: type 3 lithology: olivine: Fa17.7±15.7 (Fa0.6-46.2, n=10); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs15.8±8.4Wo0.5±0.2 (Fs5.1-29.3Wo0.3-1.1, n=10); Ca-pyroxene: Fs13.8±1.9Wo40.9±4.1 (Fs10.5-17.0Wo30.7-45.0, n=8); type 6 lithology: olivine: Fa37.3±0.1 (FeO/MnO=75±6, n=8); Ca-pyroxene: Fs10.1±0.7Wo45.6±0.5, n=8 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
