Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 13849 (NWA 13849) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: January, 2021 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-6) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Ten dark grayish fragments some of which partly covered by fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a fresh dark grayish interior and is a breccia composed of up to 3 mm sized angular to subrounded type 6 and black impact melt clasts in abundant type 3 matrix. Ferroan olivine and nests of sodic plagioclase are the most abundant mineral phases in the clasts. Compositionally unequilibrated olivine and low-Ca pyroxene are dominant in matrix chondrules and among matrix mineral fragments. Chondrules have an average diameter of about 450 μm. In the matrix, sodic plagioclase occurs as small isolated grains. Opaques phases are sulfides and Ti-bearing chromite; metal is absent. Geochemistry: type 3 lithology: olivine: Fa26.2±10.5 (Fa15.2-45.4, n=10); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs17.3±7.7Wo0.8±0.3 (Fs5.4-29.0Wo0.3-1.3, n=12); Ca-pyroxene: Fs11.0±0.9Wo44.9±0.8 (Fs8.9-12.4Wo43.0-46.0, n=8); type 6 lithology: olivine: Fa37.1±0.2 (FeO/MnO=73±5, n=7); Ca-pyroxene: Fs10.4±0.3Wo45.9±0.3, n=8 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
