Dayr al Aswad 30°46’10.79’’N, 28°06’30.7’’E Marsa Matruh, Egypt Find: 2019 Aug 01 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R5) History: The meteorite was found by Mr. Amr Khaled in August 2019 during a field trip to the North Western Egyptian desert. Physical characteristics: Ten several cm sized dark brownish fragments lacking fusion crust were recovered. Petrography: The meteorite displays a brownish unbrecciated interior composed of well-formed porphyritic and barred chondrules (mean diameter about 400 µm) set in a fine grained matrix dominated by ferroan olivine. More minor phases include low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, sodic plagioclase, pentlandite, and low-Ti chromite; no metal has been detected. Olivine and pyroxene are compositionally equilibrated. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa37.8±0.4 (Fa37.3-38.4, n=12); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs29.4±0.6Wo1.5±0.1 (Fs28.4-30.1Wo1.4-1.6, n=8); Ca-pyroxene: Fs9.9±0.4Wo46.6±0.6 (Fs9.4-10.3Wo45.7-47.6, n=8); feldspar: An13.1-14.7Ab81.0-83.2Or3.5-4.2, n=3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
