Northwest Africa 14477 (NWA 14477) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Aug Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in August, 2021. Physical characteristics: Dark grayish rock almost completely covered with fresh fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays an unbrecciated fresh dark-grayish interior and is composed of well-defined mostly rounded chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 400 µm) and mineral fragments set in abundant matrix dominated by Fe-rich olivine. Sodic plagioclase occurs as small isolated grains in the matrix. Opaque phases include often aggreated pentlandite and troilite as well as Ti-bearing chromite; metal is absent. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa25.2±17.5 (Fa1.2-47.3, n=24); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs20.3±8.1Wo1.9±0.7 (Fs9.0-36.2Wo0.6-3.9, n=23); Ca-pyroxene: Fs10.5±3.0Wo28.7±4.8 (Fs7.9-18.8Wo17.9-34.6, n=15) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
