Purchased: 2021 Sep

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in September 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Both lithic Type 3 chondrite clasts and discrete glass-bearing, unequilibrated chondrules occur in a fine-grained matrix (~25 vol.%, orange in thin section). Chondrules have apparent diameters of 510±270 µm (N = 26). Accessory sodic plagioclase and chromite are present but metal is absent; Fe oxides may represent altered troilite or other sulfides.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa_34.8±7.7, range Fa_21.5-39.8, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs_23.8±9.3Wo_2.2±0.4, range Fs_13.3-30.5Wo_1.7-2.4, N = 3), augite (Fs_11.4±0.3Wo_45.2±0.5, range Fs_11.1-11.7Wo_44.7-45.7, N = 4), plagioclase (Ab_83.9-86.8An_13.4-10.2Or_2.7-3.0, N = 2).

Classification: R3 chondrite breccia.

Specimens: 20.0 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
