Achondrite (ureilite)

The 167 g meteorite was found in the desert. The angular stone is partly coated with dark-brown fusion crust. Mineralogy and classification (C. Lorenz and N. Kononkova, Vernad.): The rock has achondritic, coarse-grained granular texture with abundance of triple junctions, consists of olivine (Fo79.7, Fe/Mn=39.4) and orthopyroxene (En76.4 Wo1.3, Fe/Mn=23.8), minor clinopyroxene (En45.6 Wo43.4), rare metal (2.25 wt% Ni, Ni/Co=7.2), troilite and chromite. The olivines are replaced with fine-grained aggregate of troilite and pyroxene (En78.8 Wo1.1) developed along the grain borders and cracks, and show local reduction around replaced areas. Specimens: type specimen, 20.5 g, and thin section, Vernad; main mass with anonymous finder.
