IDENTIFICATION OF PANETHS IRON Name: PANETH'S IRON Place of find: Not known. Date of find: Not known. Class and type: Iron. Coarse octahedrite (III E). Number of individual specimens: 3 Total weight: 54.5 kg Circumstances of find: Not known. The three slices, now in the collections of the British Museum (Natural History), the Institute of Geological Sciences (London), and the Max-Planck-Institut fur Chemie (Mainz), were evidently cut from a single mass, which passed through the hands of the London dealer/collector, John Frederick Calvert (1811-1897).
