Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 13733 (NWA 13733) Algeria Purchased: 2020 Apr Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL(L)3) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in April 2020 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, closely packed glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 850±380 µm, N=25) are set in a fine grained matrix containing altered kamacite, troilite, taenite and chlorapatite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.1±10.7, range Fa1.1-30.9, N = 8; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.01-0.06 wt.%, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.8±11.3Wo1.7±2.1, range Fs6.9-29.1Wo0.3-4.1, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs14.1Wo6.8; Fs22.8Wo5.7; N = 2), augite (Fs11.2±7.1Wo40.1±1.8, range Fs3.7-17.9Wo41.3-38.1, N = 3). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.47. Classification: Ordinary chondrite LL(L)3. Magnetic susceptibility is high for a W2 LL3, but chondrule size would be large for L. Hence the LL(L) classification. Specimens: 42.6 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
