Northwest Africa 14441 (NWA 14441) Morocco Purchased: 2021 Classification: Pallasite-PMG History: Purchased by Jay Piatek from Rachid Chaoi in 2021. Physical characteristics: Exterior is irregular, dark brown, and weathered lacking fusion crust. Saw cut surface shows angular cm-sized brown to dark-orange olivine grains set in metal. The modal abundances are approximately 60% olivine 40% metal. Petrography: (A. Ross, C. Agee, UNM) Reflected light microscopy and electron microprobe analysis reveal the presence olivine, kamacite, taenite, troilite, chromite and schreibersite. Geochemistry: (A. Ross, C. Agee, UNM) Olivine Fa11.9±0.1, Fe/Mn=39±1, Fe/Mg=0.13±0.00, n=6; kamacite Ni=6.6±0.7, Co=0.58±0.04 (wt%), n=2; taenite Ni=23.7±1.3, Co=0.25±0.05 (wt%), n=2. Classification: Pallasite (main group) Specimens: 21 g including a probe mount on deposit at UNM, Jay Piatek holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
