Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 14720 (NWA 14720)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: Pallasite (Main group)

Physical characteristics: Dark brown, strongly weathered meteorite fragments, some with firmly adhering sediment (quartz grains), cemented by iron oxides/hydroxides.

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Olivine grains with sizes up to 1.1 cm, embedded in ~50 vol% iron oxides/hydroxides, which also occur as crosscutting veins in olivine. No unaltered Fe-Ni metal has been found. Some relictic troilite grains are present.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean olivine composition: Fa13.0±0.3 (Fa12.6-13.3); Fe/Mn (at.): 38±4; n=6.

Classification: Pallasite (main group), based on texture, grain size of olivine and olivine composition.
