Northwest Africa 14170 (NWA 14170) Niger Purchased: 2019 Nov Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in November 2019 from a dealer in Niger. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) The specimen retains original breccia structure, but both lithic clasts and sparse matrix have been recrystallized into an overall poikiloblastic texture characterized by olivine chadacrysts within low-Ca pyroxene oikocrysts. No trace of original chondrules remains. Accessory phases include sodic plagioclase, augite, taenite, kamacite, troilite, Ti-chromite, K-feldspar, chlorapatite and merrillite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa30.1±0.3, range Fa29.9-30.6, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs24.2±0.4Wo3.9±0.5, range Fs23.6-24.6Wo3.3-4.4, N = 4), augite (Fs11.8±1.2Wo40.5±2.2, range Fs10.6-13.2Wo37.7-42.6, N = 4), plagioclase (Ab78.6-85.7An20.0-11.9Or1.4-2.4, N = 3), K-feldspar (Or84.2Ab11.4An4.5). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7 breccia, poikiloblastic). Specimens: 20.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
