Northwest Africa 14141 (NWA 14141)

Purchased: 2021 Feb

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL4)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in February 2021 from a dealer in Laayoune, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Very fresh specimen composed of equilibrated, fibrous pyroxene-rich chondrules and partial chondrules set in a fine grained, relatively metal-rich matrix (~20 vol.%, opaque in thin section) containing accessory Cr-troilite.

Geochemistry: Enstatite (Fs0.4±0.0Wo2.0±1.3, range Fs0.4Wo0.9-3.4, N = 3), diopside (Fs0.9±0.2Wo47.2±0.3, range Fs0.7-1.0Wo447.0-47.4, N = 2), kamacite (Ni 7.5±0.0 wt.%, Si 0.6±0.0 wt.%, N = 2), troilite (Cr 2.7-2.8 wt.%, Ti 0.3±0.0 wt.%, N = 2).

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL4).

Specimens: 30.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
