Northwest Africa 2359 Northwest Africa Found 2004 Achondrite (eucrite) A 1298 g single stone with partial fusion crust was purchased in Erfoud, Morocco in 2004 March. Description and classification (T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU): highly shocked, polymict eucrite breccia; up to 80 vol. % of basalt clasts and mineral fragments were recrystallized into fine-grained masses (S5). In addition, earlier generated breccia clasts are present and are equally shocked; similar to NWA 2124. Average compositions are: low-Ca pyroxene, Fs54.6Wo3.2; pigeonite, Fs46.4Wo12.5; augite, Fs26.Wo40.8; plagioclase, An91.5; chromite, cr# = 87. Lightly weathered. Specimens: type specimen 21.1 g, NAU; main mass, Burkard. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
