Northwest Africa 6048 (NWA 6048) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2009 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict) Petrography: The meteorite consists of different lithic clasts and larger mineral fragments set in a finer grained clastic groundmass. Lithic clasts are dominatly basaltic and dark impact melt clasts. Larger mineral fragments are calcic plagioclase and pyroxenes with very fine exsolution lamellae. Minor phases include silica polymorphs, chromite and FeS. Some regions show brownish staining due to terrestrial alteration. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs29.9-49.7Wo5.9-9.5; Ca-rich pyroxene: Fs43.6-54.2Wo15.2-29.1; calcic plagioclase: An87.8-92.1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
