Writeup from MB 101:
Northwest Africa 7269 (NWA 7269) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2012 Feb Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by Greg Hupé in February 2012 from a Moroccan dealer at the Tuscon Gem and Mineral Show. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Very fresh breccia composed of large basaltic eucrite clasts with some thin cross-cutting shock veinlets. Constituent minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite and troilite. Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene host (Fs60.3-60.8Wo3.1-2.5, FeO/MnO = 31), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs26.7-26.8Wo43.1-43.4, FeO/MnO = 29-30). Classification: Eucrite, monomict Specimens: 20 g of type material and one polished thin section are on deposit at UWB. The remaining material is held by GHupé. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
