Northwest Africa 10177 (NWA 10177) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2013 Sep Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict) History: Purchased by John Curchin in September 2013 from a Moroccan dealer at the Denver Show. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Fresh fragmental breccia composed mainly of clasts of basaltic to partially granoblastic eucrites plus related debris, and minor amounts of diogenitic orthopyroxene. Other minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite, chromite, troilite and Ni-free metal. Geochemistry: Host orthopyroxene (Fs51.7-52.6Wo3.0-1.5, FeO/MnO = 30-31, N = 2), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs24.2-21.1Wo40.2-42.7, FeO/MnO = 30-32, N = 2), diogenitic orthopyroxene (Fs18.1Wo1.2; Fs25.0Wo2.7; FeO/MnO = 25-35), olivine (Fa74.6, FeO/MnO = 43). Classification: Eucrite (polymict breccia). Specimens: 9.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB. The remainder is held by Mr. J. Curchin. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
