Northwest Africa 13929 (NWA 13929)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict)

History: Purchased by Rachid Chaoui from a Mauritanian dealer and subsequently acquired by Didi Baidari in March 2021.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed predominantly of lithic eucrite clasts and related mineral debris plus <10 vol.% diogenitic material (including some noritic diogenite lithic clasts) in a finer grained matrix. Minerals include exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase and low-Ca diogenitic pyroxene together with accessory silica, troilite, ilmenite, olivine, fayalite and low-Ti chromite.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene host (Fs53.3-59.3Wo3.3-4.9, FeO/MnO = 32, N = 2), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs23.3-28.7Wo36.0-41.1, FeO/MnO = 29-30, N = 2), low-Ca pyroxene in noritic diogenite clast (cores Fs33.4-33.7Wo3.6-5.2, FeO/MnO = 26-32, N = 2; rim Fs50.2Wo2.8, FeO/MnO = 32), augite in nortitic diogenite clast (Fs16.2Wo41.3, FeO/MnO = 20), olivine (Fa57.9, FeO/MnO = 51), fayalite (Fa80.8, FeO/MnO = 42), calcic plagioclase (An88.8-94.0Or2.8-0.2, N = 3), anorthite in noritic diogenite clast (An95.0Or0.2).

Classification: Eucrite (polymict breccia).

Specimens: 28.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. D. Baidari.
