Northwest Africa 13523 (NWA 13523) Algeria Find: 2019 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) History: Purchased in 2020 by Matthew Stream from a seller in Algeria. Physical characteristics: Single stone with minor fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Sample is a brecciated eucrite composed of cumulate eucrite clasts, basaltic eucrite clasts, anorthositic clasts, and isolated mineral fragments set in a fine-grained matrix. Accessory phases include chromite (some Ti-rich), troilite, SiO2-rich glass, and ilmenite. Geochemistry: Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs41.1±2.9 Wo2.2±1.0, range Fs31.6-45.2 Wo1.0-4.1, FeO/MnO = 31±4, n=47), Pigeonite (Fs38.3±2.8Wo10.4±3.5, range Fs34.5-42.1Wo6.5-17.4, FeO/MnO = 30±3, n=9), Augite (Fs20.7±2.7Wo41.2±0.1, range Fs18.7-22.6Wo41.1-41.3, FeO/MnO = 26±3, n=2), Calcic Plagioclase (An88.0±4.9, range An80.1-96.3, n=18). Classification: HED Achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) Specimens: 20.77 grams at UCLA; main mass with Matthew Stream. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
