Writeup from MB 109:
Northwest Africa 13443 (NWA 13443) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Mar Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3.1) History: Purchased in March 2020 by Fabien Kuntz in Zagora. Physical characteristics: Multiple fragments with fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Small chondrules (120±60 µm, ~60 vol.%), isolated mineral fragments, and CAIs set in a mostly opaque matrix (~40 vol.%). Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa17.9±15.9, range Fa0.4-40.9, FeO/MnO = 74±36, n=27), Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine (Cr2O3 wt% = 0.25±0.08, n=17), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs4.4±5.7Wo1.8±1.2, range Fs0.8-17.4Wo0.3-3.7, n=8). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3.1). Cr2O3 content of ferroan olivines suggest a low petrologic subtype that is approximately midway between Rainbow (CO3.2) and Colony (CO3.0) as reported in Grossman and Brearley (2005). Specimens: 20.21 grams at UCLA; main mass with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
