Writeup from MB 110:
Aydar 007 27°46’39.7’’N, 10°00’53.8’’W South, Morocco Purchased: 2021 Apr Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4-6) History: Found in September 2020 by meteorite hunters. Purchased in 2021 from a mineral dealer in Morocco. Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Genomict carbonaceous chondrite breccia, consisting of type 6 clasts embedded in type 4 material. The latter consists of chondrules, chondrule fragments, and CAIs, set in a recrystallized dark matrix. Type 6 clasts with strong recrystallization textures and barely visible chondrule relicts. Accessories in both lithologies are magnetite, troilite, and pentlandite. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Type 4 material: Mean composition of olivine Fa30.9±0.8 (Fa29.5-31.9) with a mean Ni concentration 0.36 wt% (n=10). Mean composition of low-Ca pyroxene Fs17.5±6.3Wo0.9±0.2 (Fs4.2-26.5Wo0.7-1.3); n=10. Type 6 clasts: Mean composition of olivine: Fa32.2±0.2 (Fa32.1-32.7) with a mean Ni concentration of 0.48 wt% (n=11). Mean composition of low-Ca pyroxene: Fs27.9±0.6Wo1.7±0.6 (Fs27.2-28.7Wo0.8-2.4); n=6. Magnetite is the most abundant opaque phase in both lithologies and shows significant concentrations of elements other than Fe (wt%): MgO=0.2; Al2O3=2.1; Cr2O3=4.5; NiO=0.2 (mean values; n=6). Classification: CK chondrite based on mineral chemistry. The petrologic type 4 of the host material is based on the nearly equilibrated state of olivine (PMD Fa=3) and unequilibrated state of pyroxene (PMD Fs=36). Type 6 clasts show equilibrated olivine and pyroxene and secondary plagioclase grains >50 µm. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
