Northwest Africa 14121 (NWA 14121)

Purchased: 2018 Sep

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in September 2018 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Relatively small, glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 220±150 µm, N = 24) accompanied by zoned olivine grains and fine grained CAI are set in a fine grained matrix containing stained metal and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa27.6±17.6, range Fa1.9-43.6, N = 6; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.02-0.36 wt.%, N = 4), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs1.6±0.2Wo2.7±1.4, range Fs1.4-1.7Wo1.1-3.6, N = 3), subcalcic augite (Fs0.9Wo32.4), augite (Fs31.8Wo45.6).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3).

Specimens: 31.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
