Northwest Africa 14169 (NWA 14169)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019 Mar

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in March 2019 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed, relatively small glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 230±130 µm, N = 25), zoned olivine and pyroxene fragments, and very fine grained CAI are set in a relatively fresh, finer grained matrix (~15 vol.%) containing stained kamacite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa29.6±16.2, range Fa0.7-37.5, N = 5; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine <0.08 wt.%), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs1.3±0.4Wo3.0±1.8, range Fs1.0-1.7Wo1.2-4.8, N = 3), subcalcic augite (Fs5.2Wo26.5), diopside (Fs1.0Wo37.4).
