Northwest Africa 14933 (NWA 14933)

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVred3)

History: 25 small fragments totaling 800 g were purchased by Carlos Muñecas (Expometeoritos) from a meteorite dealer in Ouargla, Algeria, in May 2022

Physical characteristics: Samples are irregularly shaped, dark brown and show numerous chondrules on the exterior. The cut face shows the interior contains abundant chondrules and CAIs.

Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample contains abundant well-formed chondrules (avg. dia. 1028 um, n=17) and CAIs set within an opaque fine-grained matrix (~46 vol%). Additional minerals are: FeNi metal, magnetite, troilite, chromite and FeOH minerals.

Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) Olivine (Fa7.0±11.1, Fe/Mn=11.9-163.5, n=19); low Ca pyroxene (Fs1.2±0.5Wo1.0±0.3, n=6); high Ca pyroxene (Fs1.7Wo31.6, n=1); Ni content (wt%) in sulfides=0.06±0.0, n=3.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3 reduced). Sample is a CV3 based on mineral compositions, chondrule diameters, abundance of matrix and presence of CAIs. Based on magnetic susceptibility and Ni content of sulfides sample belongs to the reduced CV3 subgroup Gattacceca et al., 2020.

Specimens: Carlos Muñecas holds the 50 g main mass. A polished thin section and 23.7 3 g of small individuals are on deposit at App.
