Writeup from MB 110:

Loulan Yizhi 043        ~40°30’N, ~89°40’E

Xinjiang, China

Find: 2019

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL3)

History: (Ziyao Wang) Ai Li Kayiti discovered this stone close to Loulan Yizhi in 2019 while they were searching for archaeological objects, sold it on the Shanshan market to Ziyao Wang, and donated it to R. Bartoschewitz.

Physical characteristics: Single brown stone of 10.6 g

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) well developed chondrules (mainly PP and GP) up to 1.5 mm (av. 0.5±0.2 mm; n=11) with dominant enstatite, few forsterite and minor feldspar and silica set in a fine-grained dark red-brown translucent matrix together with mineral fragments and metallic grains. Internal cracks are filled with Fe-oxides/hydroxides.

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Forsterite Fa0.2 (Fa0.1-0.2; n=4); enstatite Fs0.8Wo0.8 (Fs0.1-5.4Wo0.4-5.7); n=36); feldspar An5Or5-10 (n=2). Troilite Ti=0.4, Cr=2.1, Mn=0.8 (n=2); kamacite Si=1.4 (1.3-1.7), Ni=5.6 (4.9-7.1, n=11) wt%. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.49

Classification: Enstatite chondrite ELa3 (S1, W3)

Specimens: 2.5 g on deposit in Kiel, main mass and polished thin section with Bart, 1 g with Ziyao Wang
