Catalina 400 24°56’56.0"S, 69°44’32.1"W Antofagasta, Chile Find: 2019 Nov 26 Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EH5) Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with small chondrules (~200 µm) and elongated enstatite crystals set in a matrix made mostly of terrestrial weathering products. Plagioclase up to 10 µm. Most opaques are weathered. Surviving primary opaque minerals are rare kamacite, daubreelite, schreibersite and a variety of iron-nickel phosphides. Graphite inclusions are found as aggregates of ~10 µm grains. Geochemistry: Enstatite Fs1.1±0.4Wo0.1±0.0, range Fs0.7-1.6 (n=4). Plagioclase An2.6Ab93.0Or4.4 (n=2). Kamacite contains 2.90 wt% Si. Oxygen isotopic composition (J, Gattacceca, C, Sonzogni, CEREGE) from analysis of one acid-washed (HCl, EATG) 1.5 mg aliquot of a powdered 129 mg bulk sample is δ17O=2.982‰, δ18O=6.052‰ , Δ17O=-0.165‰ (slope 0.52, analytical uncertainties 0.08‰, 0.12‰, 0.03‰ respectively). Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EH5). EH based on the Si content of metal. Type 5 based on the plagioclase size. Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE.
