Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 12791 (NWA 12791)

Morocco

Purchased: 2019

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from a Moroccan dealer in Yiwu/Zhejiang in Apr 2019

Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) brown irregularly shaped stone of 27 g, without fusion crust

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) intergranular phenocrysts of pyroxene and feldspar. Pyroxene phenocrysts are of aphanitic texture (grain size ~20 µm) with few microcrysts (>30 µm), while feldspar phenocrysts present a micro trachytic texture. In our section this intergranular texture shows a transition to a turbid melt texture.

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Low Ca pyroxene Fs59.2±0.5Wo3.4±0.3, Fe/Mn=32 (n=2); pigeonite En35-45Fs49-57Wo5-10 (n=16); augite En30-33Fs27-52Wo18-42 (n=5); plagioclase An87-91Or<1 (n=11); chromite CRAL74-79, FFM4-9 (n=3); ilmenite. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 2.60.

Classification: Achondrite (basaltic eucrite)

Specimens: 5.47 g on deposit at Kiel, Wang Ziyao holds the main mass, and 6 g with Bart.
