Northwest Africa 12833 (NWA 12833) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Mar Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by Darryl Pitt in March 2019 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia consisting of subophitic eucrite clasts plus related crystalline debris. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite, low-Ca pyroxene, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite, baddeleyite, troilite and rare Ni-free metal. Minor secondary calcite veinlets and barite are present. Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene (Fs61.5-62.4Wo1.7-2.2, FeO/MnO = 32-33, N = 2), clinopyroxene (Fs27.1-29.2Wo42.5-40.1, FeO/MnO = 30-32, N = 3), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs58.2-50.2Wo6.0-5.1, FeO/MnO = 32, N = 2), plagioclase (An82.2Or1.0; An91.1-92.7Or0.2; N = 3). Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia). Specimens: 22.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with DPitt. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
