Northwest Africa 12958 (NWA 12958) Morocco Purchased: 2019 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, melt breccia) History: Purchased in Morocco in 2019. Physical characteristics: Dark brecciated stone. Cut surface reveals a dark-gray interior with light, cm sized clasts. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Brecciated fine-grained igneous rock with lithic clasts set in a melt rock matrix. Main minerals are plagioclase and pyroxene (some with augite exsolutions). Other minerals: rare metal (up to 50 µm), troilite, ilmenite, silica polymorph, chromite. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs64.1±1.5Wo2.5±1.0, FeO/MnO 33.6±3.0 (n=5). Augite exsolution Fs293Wo42.6 (n=1). Plagioclase An89.6±0.6Ab9.9±0.7Or0.5±0.4 (n=3). Chromite Cr# 0.84 (n=1). Classification: Achondrite (eucrite melt breccia). Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE.
