Northwest Africa 13918 (NWA 13918) Morocco Purchased: 2013 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: A single stone found in Morocco by nomads. Purchased by Graham Ensor in Ensisheim, France, in 2013. Date of find unknown. Physical characteristics: Physical Characteristics: Physical Characteristics: Dark, sandblasted with minor amounts of fusion crust remaining. Irregular lighter clasts with impact melt veins. Petrography: The meteorite exhibits extensive melt veining, large irregular clasts of pyx and plag ranging in size from 1.2 to 9.6 mm, heavily brecciated although internal to clasts less brecciation is observed. Pyroxene exsolution lamellae are observed. Accessory phases include ilmenite, chromite, silica phase, diopside. Geochemistry: Mineral Composition and Geochemistry: (T. J. Barrett, T. S. Hayden, OU) Feldspar (An90Ab10, n=29), orthopyroxene (Fs60En37Wo3??, FeO/MnO = 30.94, Mg# = 27.97–40.25, n=30), pigeonite (Fs55En35Wo10, FeO/MnO = 31.45, Mg# = 34.84–40.47, n=21), augite (Fs38En31Wo31, FeO/MnO = 33.08, Mg# = 24.5–47, n=20). Classification: Eucrite Specimens: 14 g type specimen held at OU. Graham Ensor holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
