Northwest Africa 12483 (NWA 12483) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Several brownish individuals without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a recrystallized texture with frequent 120 degree triple junctions and is dominantly composed of typically 100 to 200 µm sized enstatite, forsteritic olivine, and augite grains, with enstatite being the most abundant mineral phase. Minor phases include kamacite, schreibersite, daubreelite, and troilite. No chondrules present. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa1.4±0.3 (Fa0.7-1.9, n=12, FeO/MnO=7±1); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs3.0±0.1Wo1.3±0.1 (Fs2.8-3.3Wo1.0-1.4, n=11, FeO/MnO=8±1); Ca-pyroxene: Fs1.5±0.2Wo44.2±0.4 (Fs1.2-1.9Wo43.7-45.1, n=12, FeO/MnO=6±1) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
