Saguia el Hamra, Western Sahara

Find: 2006

Classification: Enstatite achondrite (Aubrite)

History: Found in Morocco in 2006. Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Habib naji Naji in Guelmim, Morocco, Dec 2019

Physical characteristics: This single stone weighs 35 kg and has no fusion crust. The exterior is brown in color with some orange patches.

Petrography: This stone displays a fine-grained equigranular texture. It mainly consists of anhedral enstatite (0.1- 0.5 mm in length) with clasts of enstatite (up to 0.95 mm across). Plagioclase is the minor mineral and interstitial to enstatite. Accessory mineral includes kamacite, troilite and daubreelite.

Geochemistry: Enstatite is characterized by the homogeneous composition of En98.5 Wo1.5, while plagioclase is Ab80.5 Or4.3. kamacite contains 1.237 wt% Si and 3.383 wt% Ni, daubréelite contains 17.026 wt% Fe, 37.815 wt% Cr, 42.63 S wt%, and 2.986 wt% Mn.

Specimens: 71 g including two polished thick sections are on deposit at CUG; Ziyao Wang holds the main mass.
