Adrar, Algeria

Purchased: 2022

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: The meteorite was found in the Adrar region, Algeria, close to the find location of Erg Chech 001 and purchased by the main mass holders from a meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: One 272 g piece and several small brownish fragments some partly covered with fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite appears unbrecciated and shows a coarse-grained protogranular texture up to 2 mm sized orthopyroxene crystals with minor chromite, troilite, and rare kamacite.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs23.0±0.3Wo2.2±0.1 (Fs22.4-23.4Wo2.2-2.3, FeO/MnO=25-31, n=6)

Classification: Diogenite; likely paired with Erg Chech 001.
