Northwest Africa 14474 (NWA 14474)

Purchased: 2021 Aug

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in August, 2021.

Physical characteristics: Dark brownish fragment without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite shows a dark brownish interior and is composed of abundant small chondrules (mean diameter about 200 µm), CAIs, and mineral fragments set into a fine-grained matrix. Some chondrules are surrounded by fine-grained dust rims. Opaque phases are mostly altered metal and troilite. The meteorite is crosscut by abundant iron-hydroxide veins.
