Northwest Africa 12499 (NWA 12499) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6, melt breccia) History: Purchased at Hamburg Mineral Show Dec. 2018. Physical characteristics: 103.3 g black-brown stone Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) fractured and blackend recrystallized matrix with poorly recognizable chondrules in contact to fine-grained (~10 µm) recrystallized melt. The melt bears single mineral fragments up to 1 mm. Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa24.0±0.3 (n=17); pyroxene Fs20.2±0.3 (n=6), Wo1.4±0.1; chromite CRAL=82-85, FFM=89-81 (n=2). Kamacite Ni=8.9 wt%, Co=0.7 (n=1). wt%. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.94 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6-melt breccia, W0) Specimens: 20.7 g at Kiel, Bart holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
