Northwest Africa 12629 (NWA 12629) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Jul Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4) History: Purchased in Zouerat, Mauritania by Mbark Arjdal in July 2018 from Mohamed Zergou. Physical characteristics: A single, rather fragile stone with a somewhat weathered exterior (3897 g). Fresh interior surfaces exhibit well-formed chondrules in a finer matrix. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Closely-packed, well-formed chondrules are set in a sparse matrix containing altered metal. Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa25.0±0.1 (Fa24.9-25.0), N = 3; low-Ca pyroxene, Fs22.9±3.6Wo1.2±1.1 (Fs20.4-29.5Wo0.5-2.8), N = 3; subcalcic augite, Fs15.3Wo2.5; augite, Fs10.4Wo35.1. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4). Specimens: 71.9 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
