Northwest Africa 12744 (NWA 12744)

Purchased: 2019

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock with some fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite displays a chondritic texture with well defined and often slightly flattened chondrules (mean diameter about 0.6 mm) and fine-grained matrix containing sulfides and FeNi metal. Olivine is compositionally equilibrated; low-Ca pyroxene is highly unequilibrated. The meteorite contains shock melt veins.
