Northwest Africa 12759 (NWA 12759)

Purchased: 2019 Feb

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5)

History: Three similar, large stones (50 kg, 30 kg and 18.3 kg) were found together at an undisclosed location and purchased in Temara, Morocco by Adam Aaronson in February 2019.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Sparse chondrules are present in a recrystallized matrix containing stained metal, chromite, troilite and taenite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.2±0.9 (range Fa24.4-26.1), N = 3), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.0±0.3Wo1.3±0.2 (range Fs20.7-21.2Wo 1.5-1.1), N = 3), high-Ca pyroxene (Fs9.6±2.6Wo41.7±4.8 (Fs6.7-11.8Wo45.9-36.4), N = 3).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5).

Specimens: 57 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Aaronson.
