Northwest Africa 12876 (NWA 12876)

Purchased: 2019

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5, melt breccia)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a Morrocan meteorite dealer on the meteorite fair in Ensisheim, France.

Physical characteristics: Seven brownish rocks with some fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a melt breccia composed of L5 chondritic regions with several recognizable chondrules (plagioclase grain size about 40 μm) and abundant up to 1 cm wide recrystallized shock melt veins and pockets with characteristic FeNi metal and sufide spherules.
