Northwest Africa 14018 (NWA 14018)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6)

History: Purchased by Grant Harkness in 2019 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Largely recrystallized but heavily stained with secondary iron hydroxides after primary metal. Some recognizable chondrules are present. Accessory phases are sodic plagioclase, troilite, chromite, chlorapatite and extensively altered metal.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.2±0.5, range Fa24.9-26.0, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.0±0.3Wo1.4±0.3, range Fs20.6-21.4Wo1.1-1.7, N = 5).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6).

Specimens: 18 g including one polished thin section is at PSF; remainder in the Harkness Collection.
