Grove Mountains 150276 (GRV 150276) 72°56’30"S, 75°21’29"E Antarctica Find: 2016 Jan 18 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3) Petrography: The section shows a close-packed aggregate of chondrules, ranging up to 3 mm in maximum dimension; a variety of types is present, mainly including porphyritic, barred olivine, cryptocrystalline and radial olivine textures Olivine and pyroxene have variable composition. The shock veins is clearly visible. The texture and variable mineral compositions are those of type 3, and the amount of metal suggests L group, hence the meteorite is tentatively classified L3. Specimens: The main mass and one thin section are on deposit at PRIC. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
