Northwest Africa 13860 (NWA 13860)

Purchased: 2020 Sep

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6)

History: Purchased in September 2020 by Juan Avilés Poblador on behalf of UAlic from a dealer in Chinguetti, Mauritania.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) The specimen is a fresh, highly recrystallized breccia with some relatively large remnant chondrules in angular clasts. Accessory phases include sodic plagioclase, low-Ti chromite, taenite, troilite and chlorapatite. No kamacite was found.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa31.1±0.2, range Fa31.0-31.3, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs25.0±0.3Wo2.1±0.2, range Fs24.5-25.4Wo1.9-2.3, N = 5), augite (Fs10.7±0.6Wo42.9±0.5, range Fs10.0-11.0Wo42.5-43.5, N = 3).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6 breccia).

Specimens: 4.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder in the collection of UAlic.
