Northwest Africa 14058 (NWA 14058)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: Bought by Mohamed Ali Loud from a Saharawi mineral dealer in Mauritania.

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Unequilibrated ordinary chondrite, consisting of chondrules and chondrule fragments (chemical type I and II), metal and sulfide grains and fine-grained interchondrule matrix. The mean apparent chondrule size is 560 µm (145-1470 µm; n=103).

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: The mean olivine composition is Fa23.5±4.3 (Fa15.9-27.6; n=16); the mean low-Ca pyroxene composition is Fs14.3±7.3Wo1.5±1.4 (Fs5.5-23.3Wo0.2-3.4; n=10).

Classification: L chondrite, based on mean apparent chondrule size. Petrologic type 3 (proposed subtype 3.8), based on the chemical variation of olivine (PMD of Fa values: 18.4%).
