Ordinary chondrite (L6)

A fist-sized stone (weight unknown) was seen to fall by farmers working in a field near to Pê, southwestern Burkina Faso. The chief of the village threw the stone away because it was thought to be a bad omen; later, however, geologists from Bureau of Mines and Geology of Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou managed to retrieve few fragments. Mineralogy and classification (M. Bourot-Denise, MNHNP): Ordinary chondrite, L6 (Fa25.4Fs22.1), S1, W0, very friable. Specimens: type specimen, 11.1 g, MNHNP; some fragments, Museum of Bureau of Mines and Geology of Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou.
