Writeup from MB 111:
Northwest Africa 14296 (NWA 14296) Mali Purchased: 2020 Apr Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in April 2020 from a Malian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well formed, equilibrated chondrules are set in a fine grained matrix containing kamacite, troilite, merrillite, low-Ti chromite and minor taenite. Most chondrules have glassy matrices but some are plagioclase-bearing. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.1±0.1, range Fa25.0-25.2, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.1±0.2Wo0.7±0.1, range Fs20.8-21.2Wo1.3-1.9, N = 5), augite (Fs7.6±0.2Wo45.6±0.7, range Fs7.4-7.8Wo45.0-46.3, N = 3). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4). Specimens: 23.5 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
