Northwest Africa 14288 (NWA 14288)

Niger

Purchased: 2018 Dec

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Purchased by Jesper Grønne in December 2018 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, relatively small equilibrated chondrules are set in a fine grained matrix containing altered kamacite, merrillite, chromite and minor secondary anhydrite. Sodic plagioclase is present in chondrules.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.6±0.2, range Fa18.5-19.0, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.2±0.1Wo1.1±0.1, range Fs16.1-16.3Wo1.0-1.2, N = 5), subcalcic augite (Fs8.3Wo34.3), augite (Fs5.6Wo46.4).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4).

Specimens: 24.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. J. Grønne.
